Standard ISEE
The one most often requested: it captures the income and assets of the household. It is valid until 31 December of the year it is issued and has to be renewed every year.
CAF CGN data collection centre
Tax returns, ISEE, social benefits, housing and domestic work. You bring your documents once, the file is prepared at the office and sent through CAF CGN (an authorised tax assistance centre), which issues the visto di conformità (the compliance check on the return).
Employees, pensioners, people who let out a property or have deductible expenses to recover: the point is not filling in the form, it is not leaving behind what you are entitled to.
At the office we start from the pre-filled return, check line by line what the Agenzia delle Entrate (the Italian Revenue Agency) has already loaded and add what is missing: medical expenses that were not transmitted, mortgage interest, renovations and building bonuses still in progress, school and sports expenses, insurance, supplementary pension schemes, charitable donations.
If one of these cases applies to you, the work moves to the practice's professional side: see the services for individuals.
Nurseries, school meals and fees, grants and university fees, social bonuses, Assegno Unico (the universal child benefit), local council benefits: almost every benefit starts from the ISEE (the household financial status indicator). You get it by filling in the DSU, the Dichiarazione Sostitutiva Unica (single self-declaration).
The one most often requested: it captures the income and assets of the household. It is valid until 31 December of the year it is issued and has to be renewed every year.
When your situation has worsened compared with the two reference years: job loss, cassa integrazione (wage support scheme), reduced business activity. It updates the indicator to your recent income.
For university fees, grants and EDISU. It has its own rules on how the household is made up for students living away from home or financially independent.
For benefits aimed at children under 18 whose parents are not married and do not live together. It also requires data from the parent who lives elsewhere.
For home care, benefits for people with disabilities and admission to residential facilities, with a reduced household where the rules allow it.
If INPS (the national social security institute) flags discrepancies in the asset data, we check the position and submit the corrected DSU or the supporting documents.
Once you have the ISEE, the next step is the right application at the right time. At the office we prepare and submit the most common ones.
Social security matters that require a patronato (a welfare advice bureau), such as career reconstructions, pension applications and workplace injuries, are not part of the CAF services: in those cases I point you to the body you should contact.
IMU (the municipal property tax) changes with the rate set by each municipality, with the use of the property and with personal circumstances: a home lent to your children, properties let at an agreed rent (canone concordato), appurtenances, building land, properties abroad.
If the properties have already been entered in a tax return by the practice, much of this data is already on file: there is no need to bring it every year.
Online registration with the RLI form and management of the contract throughout its life, for landlords and tenants.
Registration of the new contract within 30 days of signing, with calculation of registration tax and stamp duty.
Comparison between ordinary taxation and the cedolare secca (flat tax on rental income), with the option and its revocation in later years.
Extension, assignment, a new tenant taking over the contract and ISTAT adjustment of the rent.
Early termination and closure of the contract, with payment of any remaining taxes due.
Choice of contract type (4+4, 3+2 agreed rent, temporary, student), check of the requirements for the reduced rates in Turin, calculation of the annual tax and inclusion of the rent in your tax return.
Check that the contract has been registered correctly, the tenant's deduction in the tax return, and payment of your share of the registration tax.
Hiring someone to work in your home makes you an employer: contract, contributions, pay slips and annual obligations. The practice looks after the whole relationship.
A family hires a carer for an elderly parent. The contract and the hiring notice are needed before the work starts, then contributions every three months and pay slips every month. In the tax return, the contributions paid are deductible, and the cost of the carer may give the right to a tax deduction, if the required conditions are met.
Handling the contract and the tax return at the same office keeps those figures from getting lost along the way in June.

With a single employment and no other income, there is often no obligation. Filing is still worthwhile when you have deductible expenses to recover (medical, mortgage, renovations, education, rent), because those amounts are lost if nobody declares them. At the first contact we can check in a few minutes whether it makes sense for you.
It contains a lot of data but not all of it: often missing are expenses paid in cash where this is allowed, services not reported by healthcare providers, some school and sports expenses, and the remaining instalments of building work started in earlier years. If you accept the pre-filled return as it is, you also accept what it leaves out.
Filling in the DSU takes about half an hour on average if you have all the documents with you. The certificate is then issued by INPS: in normal periods it arrives within a few working days, in peak months it can take a few days longer. If INPS finds discrepancies in the asset data, it takes longer and the correction has to be handled.
For returns prepared with tax assistance, the visto di conformità is issued by the CAF, which is liable for errors made in checking the data against the documents provided. The taxpayer remains responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the documents handed in: that is why the initial checklist matters.
Yes, documents can easily be collected remotely. For some CAF procedures the taxpayer still has to be identified and has to sign the mandate: in that case a visit to the office is needed, grouped into a single appointment.
